Along with owning a well, also comes the responsibility to ensure that your well is functioning at its highest potential. The National Ground Water Association recommends routine annual maintenance checks to ensure the proper operation of the water well, to prolong its years of service, and to ensure your well is a safe source of water.

Use this annual check list to ensure your well is in good working order:

• A yield test, which measures the gallons per minute the well is pumping. This ensures your system has adequate output.
• An inspection of well equipment by a certified professional to ensure equipment is sanitary and performing properly.
• A water test by a certified professional for coliform bacteria, nitrates, and other contaminates. This should be done annually but any time you notice a change in taste, odor, or appearance or have a disturbance to the well such as a broken well cap you should have your water tested
